A Melbourne wedding can start in bright sun at a laneway first look, move under cloud for the ceremony, catch a shower during family photos and end in a warehouse reception lit by festoons and candles. Every shift in the weather is another white balance, another exposure, another scene to match. Multiply that by a full season of Saturdays and the editing is where the weeks go.
BackstagePost is a post-production team for wedding photographers and filmmakers. You shoot. We cull, grade, retouch and edit, and deliver galleries and films back to you, under your name. This page covers how we work with Melbourne and Victoria studios.
Four seasons in a day: matching across scenes
The real edit problem in a Melbourne gallery isn’t one hard frame. It is consistency. Sun, cloud and rain can all turn up in the same afternoon, and your couple will scroll through the gallery in one sitting.
How we approach it:
- Choose an anchor scene. Usually the ceremony, because it holds the frames that matter most.
- Match skin first. Skin is what people notice. It should read as the same person in sun and under cloud.
- Then whites. The dress shouldn’t flip between blue under overcast sky and cream in sun.
- Then the background. A grey sky can stay grey and moody, as long as the couple in front of it look right.
- Check the whole set in grid view. Scene by scene, everything looks fine. Side by side is where jumps show.
Rain frames deserve care. Wet surfaces and umbrellas reflect cold light onto skin, and clear umbrellas especially can cast a grey veil over faces. We warm skin gently under the umbrella while keeping the cool, wet feel of the scene around it.
Inside, Melbourne venues range from converted warehouses to old halls to glasshouses. Mixed window light and tungsten in one room is common. We correct for skin first, then keep the room’s warmth where it belongs, in the bulbs and candles, not on faces.
South Asian multi-day weddings
Melbourne studios that shoot South Asian weddings know how much one wedding can hold: haldi, mehndi, sangeet, the ceremony and the reception, over several days, with a big guest list, vivid outfits and a different light plan at every event.
In the 2021 Census, India-born residents became Australia’s third-largest country-of-birth group after Australia and England, according to the ABS. SBS puts Indians as the second-largest migrant group in Australia, at about 710,000 people.
For the edit, that means:
- Skin first, decor second. Marigolds, fabrics, gold embroidery and coloured stage light stay rich, but they’re not allowed to tint faces.
- One look across days. The couple should look like the same people at the haldi and at the reception. Every event is checked against an anchor.
- The right people in the cull. Your brief tells us the key family members and group shots, and which events matter most.
- Films per event. We can cut one film per event and a highlight across the whole wedding, with multi-cam sync and audio cleaned up for performances and speeches.
These weddings are charged at the same standard package prices as any other wedding. The Wedding gallery covers up to 3,000 raws across the whole wedding, all days and events together. Our post on editing Indian and South Asian weddings in Sydney and Melbourne goes through it event by event.
Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula
Out of the city, the edit changes again.
Yarra Valley vineyards. Golden hour over vine rows, dry grass, and often a marquee or barn reception. Set white balance for skin rather than sky, so faces stay warm without going orange. Keep vine greens natural. Treat the marquee as its own scene so festoon light doesn’t turn the canvas and guests yellow. Read editing Hunter Valley and Yarra Valley weddings for the full approach.
Mornington Peninsula. Coastal estates, bay views and wind. Bright water behind the couple means protecting highlights first and opening faces with a mask afterwards. On films, wind noise in ceremony audio is cleaned up so the vows stay clear.
Local editor or a team: what to weigh up
Melbourne has local solo editors as well as larger teams elsewhere, and both can be the right choice. The useful question isn’t local or overseas. It is whether the editor matches your look on a real wedding, what comes back with the edit, and how the cost fits your own pricing. A solo editor nearby can be a close, long-term relationship. A team can split the work across editors and cover stills and film together.
What we offer, so you can compare on facts:
- Photo and film from one team, with one grade across both in the Gallery + Film packages.
- Social reels: three 9:16 cuts for A$60, for couples who want to post before the full film arrives.
- Fixed AUD prices, so the cost doesn’t move with the exchange rate.
- A free first project, so you judge the match on a real wedding before paying anything.
- Project files back on every package, so you can change anything yourself.

Time difference and turnaround
Our team is in Pakistan, on UTC+5 with no daylight saving. Melbourne is 5 hours ahead in winter and 6 hours ahead during daylight saving, from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April.
The gap matters less than it sounds, because the editing team works 24 hours a day, in shifts. A link is picked up soon after it arrives, whatever the hour in Melbourne, and a question about your brief can come back to you at any hour.
Standard turnaround is 7 business days from the moment your footage link works and the brief is complete. Weekends and Victorian public holidays don’t count, so a weekend upload starts the clock on the next business day. Paste a Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, pCloud or Box link: your raws stay in your storage. Our data processing terms explain how images are handled and deleted.
